I hear you about the wildlife and their pitfalls. So sad, and yes, a crime in many instances!
A few years ago in Carmel, CA there was a young bear in a tree in the downtown area. The rangers were supposed to wait until the bear came down to lower limbs before tranquilizing him but they didn't. The result was the poor bear fell to his death with many witnesses to the tragedy.
So many of these animal are being crowded out of their disappearing habitats. :(
