The animals of the world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for white, or women created for men. ~Alice Walker

Hi Zapped. We were all created to help each other have better lives.
Yeah, I'll have to disagree with Ms. Walker on that quote because my wife was definitely made for me and I for her. Animals are capable of bringing us happiness too. Otherwise, Alice Walker is a great woman. Always a pleasure Zapped! Peace~
Hey Stephen, I'm so happy to hear you have found your soul mate! And I can agree that animals give us happiness. But, I'm guessing Alice is coming from a Buddhist perspective, where perhaps, animals are not meant for our consumption and women not here exclusively for men - in a general sense. Thank you for your comment, it's great to hear your take on this. I agree, she is an amazing woman.
Amen. Nor was the human race created for Extra-terrestrials who are one day coming down here to enslave us. They'll haul us back to their place in jampacked spaceships by force, rape our women, whip us and starve us, then justify it by saying we're an inferior race.
And centuries later, they'll be telling us to "go back home" where we came from, ie back to the planet they plundered and left for almost dead, and left only when the confederation of Milky Way states intervened.
Who could say it better than Alice? I agree we're not here for the purpose of anyone but ourselves, but what we bring to this life experience will hopefully help others in their journey. Of course, all animal friends included in this sentiment :)Thanks, Michelle xo
I enjoy the outdoors, where I gather much of my creative inspiration. I find it necessary to spend time in nature, for balance and sanity. Get Zapped is where I post my photos accompanied by quotes I find intriguing. Get Zen is for sharing my Illustrations, design work, poetry, and other creative outlets. Thanks for stopping by.

How introspective, Getzapped!
One could hold whole discussions or debates along this line. :-)

I think that's what Alice is trying to say.
So true, we are all evolving including animals.
nobody was made to be exploited by others...
susan- yes, I can see one starting...
reth- the rate humans are going with destruction of the planet, we may die off before they come for us.
string- I hope we evole into something more caring and productive as a whole.
polona- you said it!

My view for our existence?
We are simply created to be special gifts to one another. We are to enjoy each other's presence, everthing, be it human or nature.
Laurel- you said it! I'm happy you commented on this post. I know your love for animals.
Ruby-I wish I could practice this more, especially with my intimate relatioships. To embrace my partner and not get caught up in the small stuff.
Peace to all.
