Hi getzapped, i do feel that sometimes those that surround hip-hop do go overboard with their videos, attitude and the like.

I have to admit, I don't listen or watch much hip hop and know it's like a lot of other things, there's a balance to it all. But, I posted this to give all voices a chance to speak.
I appreciate your comments. Attitude is so integral to how we move through life. Hip Hop fans and musicians are expressing their walk through life too.
I had a hip-hop phase (I'm sure loyal supporters would cringe), but it was during a transitional stage of my life and I changed the way I dressed, talked and how I spent my rec time.
It lasted for about a year and a half. I do look fondly on those days- it was eye opening.
Again, thanks for sharing your experience. I too had a "phase" but I was a 'hippy' in the late 80's and like you, I learned a lot and am happy I explored that part of myself. Every generation does this ; )
Mos Def once said, In so many words, that Hip Hop reflects the youth in our society or where our society is headed. In my opinion, Hip Hop has been on a constant decline. The music that was once in the forefront (mostly addressing social and political issues) is now considered underground. It has been replaced with music that celebrates debauchery and a total disregard for decency. It's a modern day minstrel show. I wish that we had the rappers of the past. Thanks for this.
Stephen - even with the little I've delved into hip hop, I understand where you are coming from. It's lost its focus on the real things that bring real change. Maybe, someday there will be a revival?
