Have you seen the documentary Jean-Michel Basquait: The Radiant Child? I was riveted. I would have given you a prize.

Can you imagine him ever being a lousy artist? If he lost to a perfect rendition of spiderman, I'd say he had a lousy teacher ;)

vicki- Yes, I know about the doc. and he was amazing. Hey, thanks for the award!! I'm slow to blogging lately...
lolo- yeah, sometimes teachers don't have the vision of the student. I had a 6th grade art teacher who gave me a "C", and I later realized he couldn't "see" what I was creating. Oh, the art - my 6-year old niece's work!
I'm not much of a visual artist myself, but I sure do love art. There's something so magical about creating something from your mind, your imagination- OR- replicating something. It's one of the most mysterious talents, in my opinion.
This brings to mind a costume contest at my son's school a few years back. I'd created a costume for him as a Sand Raider from Star Wars. It was really pretty cool. Well, wouldn't you know it. The winners were the ones in the packaged commercial costumes. Argh!
camille- It's often said that as children we are create art readily - at what point is it taken from us?
