true - both literally and metaphorically, but why would one want to cross the river at night?

Yes- and light is stronger than darkness- you shine a flashlight into a dark room, not a flashdark in a light room!

polona- yes, that's why I like it. I can imagine having to cross the river at night to escape an oppressor, or something to that effect.

rethabile- I'm sure this can be found in many cultures.
